Philosophy Of The Cosmos - A Comment On The Anthropic Principle
One elaboration of the Strong Anthropic principle is that "Observers are necessary to bring the Universe into being." (Wikipedia)
Scientists dislike the idea that we occupy a privaleged position on the universe. This last statement implies that we are the reason for the universe - certainly in a privaleged position.
So why do we use the anthropic principle to explain things in cosmology? My suspicion is (and I really don't know enough about it - yet) that the anthropic principle is only embraced as a valid argument because it is the ONLY argument that can explain some of our observations.

Are you asking why people ACUTALLY like the anthropic principle, or whether they should? Both interesting questions.
Dayal will talk a bit about both in a couple of weeks' time. In the meantime, feel free to put speculations here.
